I studied photography in a post-secondary education university for which I also paid much money! Believe me when I say that I learned so much more by watching youtubers' videos like yours, the Bite Shot(Joannie), Peter McKinnon, Chris Hau etc! In the two years studying at the university, I learned only 40% of the photography! And also, I didn't have from them, a real support in what I wanted to do which is Travelling Photography...So yeah....I totally agree with you, bc I've learned so much about the thing I love the most by all of you...and I still am! And also, this video is an oportunity to test me again on portraits, so thank you 🙏🙏🙏

And every time there is doubt, there will always be a video by one of you, which will make me say "ok...we don't quit alex...we try more...."! So thank you again for all the help all of you youtubers give to us through your experiences you share here!
PS: i didn't realise i have written "there" instead of "university" when i said that i learned only the 40% of the photography, when i was at that university...

This was the most motivating video I ever seen. I'm 23 y.o. guy from Slovakia, living already a year in the Netherlands. I am excited about photography since I was kid, and finally a year ago bought my first DSLR camera to learn photography. I spent all my saved money to buy my first beginner DSRL, and since I have it I try to get better and better. I always shoot for myself, but since I bought a better lens for my camera I got more and more enthusiastic about photography. I get more motivation, trying to learn more and more by watching videos and photoshoots, analyze myself what I have to improve, and this is the way how I get more and more excited and motivated. Watching your videos, got goosbumps all the time, because I felt your energy how you giving us your thoughts and experience of photography. Thank you for this! I really love it, you give me more energy and even more motivation about photography, and promise I will improve myself to be a good photographer

Hi. I'm 57 years old now. I have been taking photographs since I was 8 years old. My first camera was a kodak with disposable square flashs. They came in 5 or 8 in a box. It was fun. In 2004 I took a photography course. I just wanted to just to learn new things. I already knew everything. They didn't teach how to shoot photography. I already knew this. I have a certificate on photography. I'm Puerto Rican. I use my photography on graphic designs art work for my books. Photography has opened many doors for me. I use it to create my art work for my music albums as well when I'm releasing new music. I do a lot with photography. The possibilities are endless.😊

Same here! I feel heard and understood 😅 I was so frustrated with myself last night because I was trying to edit a photo on a program I’ve never used before. The photo wasn’t sharp enough (first time working with shallow depth of field) so I was trying to sharpen some areas and it just was not working for me.
Her saying PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE is actually making sense in my small brain lol
I knew my shutter speed wasn’t high enough.
I’m glad I have another practice opportunity this coming weekend (gender reveal).
So far, I found that I love shooting close up portraits AND editing them doesn’t feel like a chore.

I studied Photography at university some 16 years ago and I must agree with you. At that time there was no accessible way to obtain knowledge like nowadays since youtube had barely any good content and most techniques (I mean mainly retouching techniques and some tricks with digital cameras) that are used now were not even invented. So university was the best way to learn. Now with so much content on youtube and other places I would not recommend it. After a few years of hiatus due to various reasons I now try to refresh my skills to try to get back into photography again and I learned more from youtube videos than back then in my university.

RUclipsrs like you Laura are really life savers. You have been really inspiring me since I came across your work on Vero. I am in the initial phase but I feel very stuck often because of not getting enough opportunities to get shoots. I think that's where I am going wrong. Focusing on money rather than the craft. I will try to improve my craft even more now. To be a good photographer. I really want to market myself and work with brands and individuals as well but I often get very stressed as I am not able to do that. Where I live in India, it's quite a task to make a living through Art. Harsh truth but it is. I think It will take some time and I will make it eventually.

And I hate to say that I started to lose passion with it, not because money was the main objective but because I truly love it. I guess I got stuck in the same old routine with it but just now watching this has brought new inspiration into my life. I can honestly say thank you because I really needed to hear all of this. From this day forward I'm going to experiment a lot more with different kinds of photography and not just sticking to portraits like I have in the past. I now know and see the importance of experimentation, after looking over your work it fills me with joy.

I just randomly discovered your channel. I like your energy. I'm a semi-pro photographer who's been doing it just for fun for 30 years. I have done paid work such as weddings, portraits and etc, but only when I am asked. Soon I will be creating two photo businesses, and the reason I have confidence to do that, is because of what you said; don't get caught up in the technical aspects, just do it. I paraphrased a bit. I do like the technical side too, but clients and friends don't care about that, just capture the magic by simply doing, and that will teach you far better than all the technical book reading.

Thanks for doing this video😎. I started taking photography seriously in 2018 and I feel like I am ready to try and put myself out there with my portfolio and start a website. I typically swap between using my iPhone and fujifilm xt4 because people tend to get skittish when they see me lift my camera for a shot. I like street photography but I’ve also tried my hand at taking other types of photos as well to train myself to look at different approaches for different shots.

I completely agree! I taught myself how to be a graphic designer. I don't have a four-year degree in graphic design, but with perseverance and dedication I was able to learn and grow. I am now managing a team of designers. I'm still learning in this field of photography, and I know I can learn even more by watching RUclips videos, trying out various shots, and listening to professionals. I'm loving everything I've discovered by experimenting with my camera settings.

Hey Raica, your journey is really inspiring, Congratulations on that and all the best on your photography journey. One question though if you don't mind, What is your favourite way of learning graphic design on your own as a beginner

    • @raicabardophotography
      @raicabardophotography Год назад

@Kiev Kelvin Thank you for your question. When I was a beginner, my favourite technique to learn graphic design was to see how other pros did it, to learn from your mistakes, to perform self-study, and to be curious about how to do it easily. I want to work smartly, not hardly.

@@raicabardophotography Thank you so much for taking your time to reply to this Raica, if you don't mind me asking, are there any pool of free resources you can point someone who'd want to embark on the same journey? Maybe RUclips channels, blog posts, anything at all. If there is I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I went to University and I went from an average event photographer to a commercial advertising photographer fairly quickly, doing workshop lighting Learning all the light shaping tools which taught us how to light different subjects and textures to create shape, form and contour was a great education we had weekly prac lessons shooting different subjects and we had access to cameras and all the studio lighting you can imagine. it helped me decide in what genre photography I wanted to pursue, you also mix with a lot of like minded students make connections and we had regular excursions visiting photography studios that did from fashion, industrial, product photographers to even sports and wedding photographers. Highly recommend if you have the time and can afford it.
The fundamentals of photography hasn’t really changed only the gear we use, don’t focus on the gear, learn your lighting and composition which is something you tubers don’t know how to teach you its something you need to learn by experimenting yourself or taking an education. For example at Uni I learned how to light Wine bottles really well and managed to get heaps of work as we have a huge wine industry in the Hunter valley near my area.
